Culture, Wildlife and Saltpans of Botswana

12 Day Camping and accommodation (2-3*) combo

Day 1

Arriving in Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana, you will be met at the airport by a Barefoot Lodge and Safari representative and depending on the time of arrival do a Gaborone orientation tour before being taken to your accommodation

….. (Bed and Breakfast)

Day 2

Botswana being a vast and stretched out country with endless horizons, we shorten our travel time on day 2 and make a stop over at Kang, an early outpost that gave travellers, then and now, a welcome rest while traversing through the Kalahari desert.

Overnight: Kang (Bed and Breakfast)

Day 3

Leaving after breakfast we head towards Khoi-San country, previously referred to as Bushman – the true natives of southern Africa. These, previously nomadic people are a dying culture and trough tourism, hope to bring awareness to their history and culture.

Arriving in time we join a family of San people on an afternoon walk in the Kalahari bush, learning and witnessing the skills that allowed them to survive the harsh desert and trying to pass-on these skills to a modern, western influenced younger generation. In the evening we might be fortunate enough to see them dancing and celebrating around the fire.

Overnight: Ghanzi trail Blazers (Full board – Dinner, Bed and Breakfast – including the afternoon walk)

Day 4

Today we head towards Maun, the tourist capital of Botswana situated on the southern point of the world-renowned Okavango delta. We make use of our time to stock up on supplies for the next few days camping adventure. If weather permit it is worth to take a scenic flight over the Delta. (Optional and can be arranged on arrival or on-line. Be sure to book for the afternoon)

Overnight: Sedia Hotel (Bed and Breakfast)

Day 5 and 6

Leaving early, we make sure we reach Moremi National Park entrance gate round lunch time for a picnic lunch. After all the formalities we enter the park – eyes open to find that first elephant.

These two nights we will be camping among the wildlife – no fencing. Make sure to follow your guides guidelines. At the campsites in Moremi the ablution are shared with other campers and hot water is not always available.

Overnight: Moremi (Camping, interactive)

Day 7

On day 7 we head back toward Maun to wash of all the dust, hopeful to spot that animal that eluded us before we reach the gate.

Overnight: Sedia Hotel (Bed and Breakfast)

Day 8

After a hearty breakfast we head out east towards the Makgadikgadi pans. A salt pan situated in the middle of the dry savanna of north-eastern Botswana, this is one of the largest salt flats in the world. The pan is all that remains of the formerly enormous Lake Makgadikgadi, which once covered an area larger than Switzerland, but dried up tens of thousands of years ago. Arriving around lunch, we have enough time to prepare for the night out on the pans – an aw-inspiring experience. Driving endlessly onto the pans we reach our overnight “spot”. Surrounded by eery nothingness and a galaxy so close its touchable. This is definitely one of the highlights of your African adventure.

Overnight: Planet Baobab (Salt pan camping hosted by Planet Baobab)

Day 9 and 10

Leaving after an early lunch, we have a long stretch to reach Kasane. If in time we will embark on an afternoon boat cruise on the Chobe river on day 9 or arrange this for the next day. Day 10 also gives us the opportunity to do an optional visit to the Victoria Falls (Crossing into Zimbabwe). This can be arranged via our accommodation or with your guide.

Overnight: Kasane (Camping- interactive)

Day 11

Day eleven we are still staying within Kasane, but we opt for an upgrade on our last night. After an early morning game drive into Chobe National Park we pack up camp and book into Chobe Safari Lodge. In the afternoon you can relax at the swimming pool overlooking the Chobe river or choose to participate in one of the activities offered by the lodge (Optional)

Overnight: Chobe Safari Lodge (Dinner Bed and Breakfast)
